25 Amazing Car Facts

You may be a regular car owner, or a mechanic who knows a lot about cars, but we've dug up some really interesting car facts that you probably don't know. Instead of rambling on, we'll let these amazing facts speak for themselves:

1) In 1925, a Ford automobile only cost $625

2) The first Hybrid car was built by Ferdinand Porsche (founder of Porsche) in 1902. It was called the "Mixte."

3) The first automobile accident in history occurred in 1769. The damaged vehicle is still being preserved in Paris. 

4) The first ever owner of a Ford Mustang was a 22-year old Chicago schoolteacher named Gail Brown who traded in a $400 Chevy and borrowed the difference. 

5) There are currently 1 billion cars in use on the planet. 

6) The last car to come with a cassette player was the Ford Crown Victoria, which offered the option up until 2011.

9) In Brazil, 92% of new cars sold use Ethanol, made from sugar cane, as fuel. 

10) Approximately 165,000 cars are produced every day. 

11) The Lamborghini Veneno has a shocking price tag of $4.5 million. 

12) Volkswagen currently owns Audi, Porsche, Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Ducati. 

13) Lamborghini was started after Ferruccio Lamborghini, a tractor maker complained to Ferrari founder Enzo about the car's clutch. After being dismissed by Enzo as a simple tractor maker, Lamborghini started making cars himself, and built a global brand. 

14) The first documented road traffic death occurred in 1896 when a woman was hit by a car.

15) In 1916, 55% of all of the cars in the world were Ford T's. 

16) The world's first speeding ticket was issued in 1902. 

17) The first traffic lights were launched in 1927 in Wolverhampton, England. 

18) In China, you can pay to get out of a traffic jam. Someone will drive your car through traffic while you are driven away and to your destination on a motorcycle. 

19) In Albania, 80% of the registered cars are Mercedes-Benzes. 

20) In Switzerland, where traffic fines are proportionate to income, a man who was caught driving 180 mph was fined $1,000,000. 

21) If you hold a remote control car key to your head, it will double its range, since the human skull actually acts as an amplifier. 

22) The phrase 'It's a doozy' comes from Dusenberg automobiles, once considered the most luxurious cars in the world in the 1920's. 

23) Mercedes built a car that actually went 268 MPH in 1938!

24) The founder of Chevrolet was actually a Frenchman from Switzerland! 

25) The automobile is the most recycled product on the planet.
