How to Save Gas
Saving Gas: A few things to consider
Make small changes in motoring habits to improve fuel consumption and lower costs.
1. Even on the coldest morning your car only needs 30 to 45 seconds to warm up.
2. Avoid wasting fuel by not revving your engine. Revving washes oil down from the inside cylinder walls which results in a loss of oil pressure.
3. Statistics show buying gas on Wednesdays saves money.
4. Stop filling the gas tank after you hear that first click. When you overfill, gas pours out of the tank.
5. Purchase gas at least three days prior to a holiday to avoid inflated prices at the pump.
6. Gas is at its densest during the cooler times of day (early morning and late evening). Gas prices are based on the volume of measurement.
7. Traveling the speed limit gives you better gas mileage. Speeding can use up to 45 percent more fuel.
8. Keep windows closed when driving on the highway. Open windows causes air drag reducing your gas mileage up to 10 percent.
9. Maintain a consistent speed whenever possible. Continuously changing your speed wastes fuel.
10. Driving on dirt or gravel roads can reduce your gas mileage by 30 percent and damage your car.
11. Reversing uses more gas. Always park so you can drive forward when leaving.
12. Look for the shortest, straightest route while traveling. Going around corners and constantly switching lanes uses extra gas.
13. Keep your car clutter-free. Removing excess weight from your back seat and trunk will give you better gas mileage.
14. Check air pressure of tires weekly; each tire should be filled to the maximum limit and periodically balanced.
15. Carpool whenever possible. Not only will it help the environment, it will help keep money in your pocket.
