5 Reasons Why Everyone Should Date a Mechanic

Posted November 11, 2014 by Ken Kupchik

Mechanics are the first people that get called when someone is having issues with their car. However, they aren't always the first in line for a date if you compare them to doctors or lawyers. But that's something that needs to change. Mechanics actually make for great significant others, here are five reasons why:

1) They don't have time to cheat - Mechanics are notoriously overworked. With so many cars on the road, and people keeping their older cars for longer than ever, there isn't a shortage of vehicle issues for mechanics to work on. While this makes the mechanic's working life more difficult, it allows the significant other some peace of mind knowing that between work and sleep, there is very little time for extra-relationship activities.

2) They can handle difficult situations - Mechanics frequently see people at their worst. Car problems make people behave in angry and unpleasant ways, and mixed with people's impatience and complicated vehicle issues, mechanics learn to deal with stressful situations. This can come in handy in a relationship as well as life in general, making the mechanic a tougher person when it comes to dealing with trials and tribulations.

3) They will always have a job - Unlike a violin-maker, or a cardboard box manufacturer, mechanics have jobs that are always in demand and not able to be outsourced. This is important because no matter what the economy or technology does; as long as people are driving cars, mechanics need to be around to fix them. So if you want a significant other who will keep bringing home the bacon no matter what happens, date a mechanic.

4) They are hardworking - There's not much that is more unattractive than laziness and people who avoid hard work. However, you can't accuse the vast majority of mechanics of this. Rain or shine, hot summers and freezing winters, nights and weekends, mechanics are always toiling away to keep people on the road. As with any other industry, of course there are those who cut corners and don't work to their full potential, but in the world of mechanics, it's incredibly difficult to get away with being lazy, simply because of the overwhelming workload that will weed out the slackers pretty quickly.

5) They will fix your car - Let's not overlook one of the biggest perks that you get when dating a mechanic; they will fix your car for you. Timing belt broke? Tell the boyfriend and he'll fix it. Strange noise coming from the wheel-well? The hubby will take a look at it for you tonight! One thing is for certain; if you're dating or married to a mechanic, your car will always be running in tip-top shape!
