They are very knowledgeable and their prices are lower than any other quotes I got on small and major work I had them do. Last spring while I was waiting in the lobby my son, who has type 1 diabetes had very low blood sugar that I couldn’t keep up after using all of our snacks and juice. I took one of their sodas from the lobby cooler and that did the trick, thankfully. I mentioned to Chuck that he had never had soda before because we try to stick with healthier foods- but when it gets dangerously low you grab whatever you can. Today, 4 months since we were in the shop, we had an appointment and he had gone to the store and bought apples, cookies, and water and said he was thinking of my son and wanted to be sure he had options to choose from if he needed anything. These are more than great mechanics, these are friends, and if I could give them more than 5 stars I would!

They go out of the way to make any repair possible....and get it done quickly and at a fair price...very affordable. We trust Gene with any of our vehicles, including my German-made sedan...he's a true car expert with decades of experience. Further, even though the shop looks small from the street, they have quite a few service bays...it's amazingly large inside....so they've always been able to fit us in, even when they had quite a few other cars and trucks already in the shop. We recommend The Auto Shop in Lakewood without reservation! This place is a well kept secret! But maybe not any more! ;-)

I took my S40 here because it's close to my house. I asked for an oil change, a new strut to hold up my hood, new brake pads, and a quote on the turn signal auto-shut-off gizmo. I was clear that the first three things were authorized, and I'd wait on the quote to decide on the turn signal. After several hours I got a call from the order-writer Larry telling me I needed a new CV joint and an air filter, too. He also quoted me on $182.50 for the turn signal gizmo, to which I replied, "For a 182 bucks I can turn off my own signal!" and declined to have that fixed. He didn't tell me anything about the brakes, but I figured they just went ahead and did them since it was pre-authorized. Larry called later that day and said my car was ready. When I got there, they had done the CV joint, the hood strut and the $182 dollar turn signal gizmo, but not the brakes! I about had a heart attack and asked Larry to have that gizmo removed, stating that I couldn't afford to pay for that. He told me that they couldn't do it, and that I needed to talk to the owner. Larry spent a long time bamboozling me into paying for the gizmo and even knocked off $20. He gave me a sob story about how he was going to have to pay for it himself if I wouldn't, and that he'd get in trouble with the owner. Since it was late and I needed to be somewhere, I agreed. As I was driving home, I discovered that my radio antenna motor was grinding away (for like 30 seconds!) when I turned the radio on and off, and it had never done that before. Of course, the next day I realized that I'd been hoodwinked and called the owner, Mike Trevathan. He agreed to put my old turn signal part back in, so I took the car back to him. When I picked it up a few hours later I discovered that my steering wheel was not straight. It tilted left by about 10 degrees. Being the symmetry freak that I am, I knew that it had to be straightened out
