Gas Filter change

I took my car in for some brake work, when they called to say it was ready they suggested I have the fuel filter changed.  I have had it done at other place before and was charged $30-35.  Carl's charged me $127.80.  When I disputed it I was told a master mechanic changed your gas filer. 

I was told if I bring it in for an oil change they would upgrade me to synthetic oil for free. -- But wouldn't I be paying a "master mechanic" to do the oil change?  Wonder how much that would cost $1000.00???
