I would under no circumstances recommend Met’s Machine Shop in Mansfield, Ohio to anyone! Contrary to their advertised claims they do not have “knowledgeable, experienced and dedicated staff.” Also, “Your most valuable work will be handled with care and professionalism: that your work will be finished as promised“ is not an accurate statement. They are not up to date on current motor standards and refuse to listen to customer concerns. I recently took a 2011 Suzuki head to have a valve job done. They ignored my request to not cut or lap in the titanium valves, since this practice will erode the anti-wear coating and deem the valve junk. When the head was returned to me and the problem was discovered, I called the shop and the first person on the phone told me this was the proper way to do a valve job when using titanium valves. I then proceeded to discuss my concerns. I told him I had spoken to many builders and confirmed you cannot cut or lap in a Titanium valve without recoating it. At this point the guy on the other end hung up. I then called back and spoke with the owner Butch, and he informed me that was their way of doing valve jobs. He then implied that is the correct way and every other shop was wrong in their practices. I then told Butch he needed to call Ferrea Valve and ask how a Titanium valve is to be installed, which he says he would. When some other employee returned my call to tell me what Ferrea said he informed me I was correct, but they were not going to correct the problem they created by ruining the Titanium valves. He then proceeded to hang up on me for a second time. I had originally chosen this shop because they are local, and I wanted to support a locally owned business. Obviously this was a mistake and I will only use well known motor builders/machine shops in the future. The first sign to me should have been that they had a short wait time to have my work completed. This should have told me that no other racers in the area use their services. If you choose to take your work to Met’s proceed with caution; make sure you know what you have and how it should be handled; make sure when you are telling them what needs to be done they are writing it down word for word; and find out ahead of time if they mess up how they will cover their mistake. Otherwise they will not make the mistake right, and they will try to screw you over on a technicality. I am out $2000 dollars in valves, do not make my mistake! Go someplace else!I would under no circumstances recommend Met’s Machine Shop in Mansfield, Ohio to anyone!
