Firestone Complete Auto Care

DO NOT take your vehicle here for repairs unless you know EXACTLY what needs to be fixed. Firestone will do whatever it takes to get your invoice to at least a $1,000 total. I took my car in to have tires rotated, oil changed and car looked at for rough idle. Firestone ran a diagnostic and said I needed new spark plugs (the car only has 76k miles!). On top of this they assured me that I was in dire need of front brakes and rotors, but that the back brakes looked good...I thought, wow, how nice that they were honest enough to not scam me into all brakes and rotors being replaced. I went ahead with changes and my bill came to a little over $1,600. I drove off, the car still idled rough. I went back and got the fuel injection cleaning, but it still did not seem right. Only after a few full tanks of Chevron gas w/Tektron did the car seem to run smoothly. (Because of this, I question whether the $800 for spark plug replacement was necessary). A few months later (and only a few thousand miles later at best) the check engine light came on. We took car to local Advance Auto Parts who obtained code for us free of charge. We took the car to Firestone, gave them the code and also asked them to take a look at a rattling noise coming from exhaust--the heat shield. Based on the code they said we needed a smoke test. Once test was done, we received a call from them stating we needed Solenoid and Fuel Cap replaced. They also said bill would be around $300. We said ok. Once solenoid work was done, we received another call from Firestone who strongly recommended replacing rear brakes, rotors and Axle seals! I said, let me guess, this will total about $1,000. They gave me break down and sure enough, $1,000. I told them no thanks, to only fix engine light problem. They proceeded to call us back 2 more times stating it was dire we had these additional repairs made. We smelled something fishy and kindly declined the recommendation again and again. When we picked the car

We had an outstanding experience with Spring Auto Pro’s and highly recommend them; they were friendly, honest and courteous. They go "above and beyond", example is our Range Rover broke down on the side of the road, just out of warrantee and was towed to the dealership. In typical dealership fashion they tried to take advantage of my wife and quoted a $5,300 repair. I had it towed to Spring Auto Pro’s from the dealership where we were pleasantly surprised at the amount of effort they put in to find out exactly what was wrong and fix it properly; not just a replace everything attitude. They took their time, really investigating the issue to pinpoint it, which saved us over $4,000! They could have charged us more knowing we’d be happy with half the price of the dealers quote but they didn’t. They have the do the right thing attitude, which is hard to come by in the automotive industry. They went out of their way to assist us with obtaining and coordinating, a rental car and also got us a discount. This may have been the best auto repair shop experience I’ve had in my 40 years and I’ve owned a lot of vehicles of all types. They give you the straight truth, what you need now, pricing options, and what you'll need at some point (and how long you can wait). These guys are great; we just purchased a new vehicle and will be using them for any auto needs we incur.

This is the first mechanic in more than a decade that I have found to be completely honest and reasonable. We have a Honda, a Ford and a Mitsubishi and all three cars are serviced by Paul and the mechanics. Such a nice, and honest service and dependable. Several times, Paul did not charge us to verify timing belts and some of the other "problems" other shops found. Once you experience their service you will never go anywhere else.

11-18 -19 My car over heated. Stan, who is a lair and a cheat, told me it was a thermostat. So I greed to have them fix it. Then Stan called claiming the water pump was bad and it is easier to replace the timing belt at this time so I agreed. While they changed the timing belt they mistimed the engine and destroyed it. They bought a replacement engine a “ salvaged” long block. No telling how many mile is on it! I asked that they put the parts I paid for on the salvaged engine. Almost ONE month later, 12-16-19 after repeated calls made by me I was able to pick up my car. I presented the rental car bill and Stan, who is a lair and a cheat said the owner will send me a check, but my car broke after 10 minutes of driving. They tried to claimed it was the exhaust not the engine but eventually cleared the problem. I asked Stan who is a lair and a cheat, if the new parts are on my car and he said no, but I’m going to warranty it for 3yrs 36k miles prorated. Next morning the engine light came on so I took it to the dealer it was there for 3 days while repairing the wiring and sensors that weren’t wired correctly and install missing bolts on the engine! To date my car has still overheated 2X I have exhaust fumes in the cab and most importantly I have not been reimbursed for the rental car and don’t have the parts I paid for.

This was a very unacceptable experience today, Sunday Dec. 15, 2013. My boyfriend dropped off his car here to get a brakejob, and someone took him home since it would be an all day job. The person told him he would pick him up when complete. I came by to simply get an oil change they said would take an hour. I searched for others on 1960, but there were none so I returned and was told 45 minutes this time. So I entered the waiting room and a fellow was talking on the phone at noon saying he'd been there since 9 for an oil change. I looked in the repair area and saw 2 teenage boys in their shorts and one slightly older guy in long pants being the only workers. I went to the desk and told them that after 45 mins. I would get my key and leave whether or not they had started. They completed mine but failed to turn off the maintenance reqd light. Later around 5:30, as I was going to my last tango practice of the year, my boyfriend called to come all the way to Cypress to pick him up since they never answered the phone to do so. About half way he called and said someone was on the way. Then called again saying he had to find a ride with a neighbor because no one showed after he waited for 30 mins outside his house in the cold weather. VERY unprofessional, not answering their workphone or following thru on the pickup. This ruined both our evenings!! Susan Young

9415 Fm 1960 West, Houston

Having been a loyal Discount Tire customer for a very, very long time (over 30 years), I couldn’t help but be somewhat heartbroken when I walked into the Discount Tire store at 9415 FM 1960 Rd, West (Houston, TX 77070) to see the lobby practically empty (during rush hour traffic) – with only one customer in the entire place. I suppose long past is the time when they used to have their lobby full, customers bustling around all over the place, because Discount Tire WAS the place we could count on for great customer service. Well, it seems those days are gone – hence the empty lobby. I came into the store to buy two new tires and I wanted them installed on the front, not the rear like they recommend. Why? – Because front tires wear faster and because (to me) new tires in front give better braking and steering control. Moreover, when travelling at highway speeds, what would you prefer – a tire blowout in the front or a blowout in the rear? My money says a rear tire blowout offers a higher chance of survivability than one in the front. Thus, I would prefer to avoid a front tire blowout at all costs. But most importantly though, I wanted the new tires mounted on the front because that was what I wanted. I have read the research and I understand the physics behind placing the tires with the most tread in the rear (rear tire hydroplaning is harder to correct for) and it makes perfect sense. However, I still wanted the new tires mounted on the front (the tread on the other two tires was still good). When placing my request, the salesman would not budge; “the new tires MUST be mounted on the rear” he says. So I walked out and purchased my tires from a tire store down the street (and saved money in the process). Whatever happened to “the customer is always right?” FYI: I was told by a tire salesman recently, that mounting new tires on the rear is a tricky way for tire retailers to push you into replacing all four tires, since “you wouldn’t want to be driving around with a couple worn tires.” Just a quick side note: all of the tire manufacturers and tire retail stores recommend continued tire rotation from the front to the rear and vice versa. Question: doesn’t rotating the tires as is recommended placing the more worn tires in the back, contrary to the spirit of their “mounting the tires with the most tread in the rear” policy?

I dont know why some folks think they are honest. This is my second dealing with them and they are crooks. first they say I cant fix the tire, the tires are 6 years old even tho the mileage is 17050 and they are michelin tires. Last time at another discount tire store, they said the same thing with my other car, they cant fix it and i ended up replacing all four tires. Their company motto is I cant fix it. You can tell they are lying when they said that and you can tell they are going to charge you disposal fee but take your tires and resell or rethread,17k miles Michelin tires are still goo. I wish I have a better place to go where people are honest/

I just got back from buy two "very expensive" (per the employee helping me) batteries for my truck. Not only was the service slow - like ridiculously slow, but this employee continued to make comments about how expensive my vehicle was to operate and at one point was telling another customer how much my new tires would cost. Then for whatever reason they decide to give me a complentary wheel alignment test and as they guy is pulling my truck out he hits a piece of equipment with my side mirror. Thankfully there was no damage and I never did get my complementary test. Get your Die Hards at another location.
