Stop Paying Your Good Money to Others for Bad Repairs

First off, let me give a thanks to Sabien and the rest of the staff at Standard Gear and Transmission! The service was awesome, and the results are incredible! Hopefully my experience will help others with the Cummins / G56 drivetrain. My throwout bearing was making noise for some time, and I continued to drive the truck, as it is my daily driver. Long story short, this destroyed my clutch fork, input shaft, and input bearing. I was on the fence for some time about doing away with the stock dual-mass flywheel and clutch. Sabien recommended a South Bend Clutch OFEK kit, and let me say, it is amazing! The engagement is similar to stock, but very positive. It does not grab, and shifts are silky smooth. The trans was refilled with 30 wt synchromesh, and it now runs smoother and quieter than I ever believed a G56 could. Pedal effort with the new hydraulics is so light that I nearly pushed the pedal through the floorboard when I started the truck for the first time. Gone are the truck's tendency to buck and jerk in reverse, and the noises from the factory clutch. I'm literally having to learn to drive the truck again, as it's manners and sounds are like new. We dealt with Lew who took his time with us and made sure that we knew all of our options. He wasn't pushy and he didn't try to sway our decision one way or another. He showed us several vehicles that fit the criteria that we were looking for...roomy for family trips but still conventional for everyday travel. I should say our credit isn't bad...but it isn't all that great either! I have been a client of this business since moving to Ft Worth in 2008. I often got the extra services they recommended (fuel and air filters, etc.) On Jan 17 of 2014, along with the oil change, they recommended an oil cleaner, as I have an older car (2000 Nissan Altima, 163,000 mi.) Wanting to extend the engine life, I agreed. They also said that the alternator bearings were making noise, and that it need replacing. No other noise was mentioned. Less than 50 miles later, the engine blew. All the mechanics I took the car (or consulted on the phone) said that they NEVER recommended oil cleaners for older cars. After two months without a car (getting groceries on foot), and after extensive research into the best used engines and mechanics who could install them, I again had running vehicle. $3000 +. I took the receipts by Shine and requested some compensation. I went back by and was informed that the cleaner could not have caused the problem, and was offered not even a car wash. If I could afford it, I would sue. As a senior dependent on SS, I cannot. Needless to say, I'll never be back.
