Engine repair service near Sacramento, CA

I wouldn't bring my car here unless it's a very basic service that you need like change a battery or spark plugs. They are overpriced and incompetent with their services. Stay away from the shop. You may not see your car again!

Polite, efficient service. Sure it's pricy, but when you need someone to come to you and replace that battery of some other essential immediate service, this is a great company to know. Kenneth W

I've been to these guys before for an alternator replacement and they did a great job. When I realized my car was leaking oil I brought my car to them to find out what was going on. They took the time to look carefully for the source of the leaks and found the valve cover gasket had shrunk over time and the bolts had worked their way loose. They also noted that the radiator and heater hoses were old and cracked. The car was leaking oil AND water! Nathan and Kevin replaces the gaskets and hoses, tightened the bolts and attended to a few other issues. I got my car back running like new! I'm really impressed with their attention to detail. I brought my 2010 Jeep Wrangler in for transmission issues about a year or so ago. Less than 5 months later, my Jeep began leaking really bad again. About 5 months later like clockwork, my Jeep started leaking bad for the third time. In my opinion, I believe they did not do a complete and thorough check of all potential leak problems or they lack the skillsl to do the job right the first time. I won’t go back to these people again

First time I've been here but I've been recommended by multiple people. Superb work! First off they aren't cheap, but no German car repair is, but what you get is quality with them. They didn't overcharge, they're straight forward and broke the billing down really well. They even washed my car, maybe even waxed it. We were on a trip to see family when our engine started over heating. We putted our way to the nearest high rated mechanic. As soon as the mechanic arrived we got a price quote, and promptly began working on our vehicle. The time went over what was estimated but the price did not. He was very thorough and explained everything that was happening with our vehicle. We liked the transparency when with the large bay window looking into the shop. We are extremely pleased with the service. If we lived in the area we would definitely make this our go to mechanic. Evan R.

My family has used H&M for almost 40 years. I can call them with my dumb questions, and they have a great sense of humor, appropriately priced and fast! Jeremias took $3500 from me to put a used engine in my old car. Once he took possession of it and took the head off, the game was over. When removing your car and going somewhere else is no longer an option, you have the tiger by the tail. The "cost" kept increasing up to $1800 that I still (involuntarily) agreed to. ($1500 had been my target cost) The last day he told me the final price was $3100, (+ the $700 for the used, untested motor...which was BAD) without my having approved of THAT absurd figure. Many "chores" were charged as separate procedures to jack up the price. Charging hours of labor for motor mounts when the engine is being replaced anyway is one example. The engine had no oil pressure and the "engine" light was on. Smog was due in six weeks and a component was missing. I had to sell the car for junk ($49 at Pick N Pull) and I had to go to court. I won in court but he won't pay. The sheriff went for a "till tap" but couldn't collect any money because he does cash transactions from his pocket. His profile with the BBB and others was not consistent with his past life, as far as years in auto repair, etc. He knows every trick in the book. "If you give this man your ride, sweet memories will die." (slight variation of the Jim Morisson song) I have all the paperwork to prove these comments, from the greed-driven invoice from 1st Choice to the $49 receipt from Pick N Pull. In court he acts confused and thinks I should have brought it BACK to him! I'm actually a little curious to see how high his lack of shame would allow him to raise the price. Of course I regret paying the total to remove my car. I should have let him keep it, but I thought the legal route was the way to go. Well...not so much with this slick operator.

Oh Wow! What happened to Doug the "Car Czar" that we all used to watch on tv and trust him and value his opinion??? Have you ever seen anyone crash so fast and hard- all I see are reviews that he's ripping people off and dis-satisfied customers. This is so sad to watch happen. Sometimes people just go off the rails and it snowballs and before you know it things are out of control. How long can the business stay open at this rate? Really sad to see- I hope he can turn his business and reputation around but what are the odds of that?
