Sunset Garage deserves more stars than 5. I have fired so many mechanics in my life, and it must have been because I was waiting to find Georges and his crew. I have been using them for well over ten years and am one of their biggest fans. I ALWAYS recommend them anytime somebody brings up an auto issue. They can fix just about any auto out there, and can even tell you the "lemons" to avoid when you are out looking for a new or newer vehicle. Again, THANKS GEORGES!! You are the best. Steven H. I brought in my 1987 Dodge B150 van. Yes, a really old van that wouldn't pass smog. A "gross polluter" per the smog shop. Michele and Dennis worked on my car diligently to figure out what the issue was. Turns out the timing was way off. After 2nd smog test, the van no.'s were really good to a low emissions vehicle. Yeah! Dennis also pointed out that my steering column was very loose. In the past, I've been told that the whole steering column needs to be replaced. But here at GF Automotive, it might be repaired, saving me a whole lot of money. GF is an honest auto mechanic shop. Hard to come by these days. Thank you Michele and Dennis for all your help!

I took in my 2007 Nissan Murano because the dealership said I had both exhaust manifolds cracked and leaking. Niki and his team discovered that I really only needed one replaced and the other would be fine for a few more years. This saved me a lot of money and I never would have known the difference! I appreciate the honesty. The other thing to mention was that they ran into some issues with the replacement because the old one was so beat up. Niki said it would take another day to complete, but I was going out of town with my family. He and one of his mechanics worked extra hard and got it done in time. Very good service! -Patrick Naylon

One of the last honest auto services shops around. The don't overcharge or find things you don't need. Fast in and out repairs. I take my bimmer there for engine service and windshield repairs. Have even taken my motorcycle fiberglass fairing there for repair sanding , and sprayed with primer. My friends take their cars here for collision repairs and painting .I'm restoring a 1968 car so taking our car to this shop for painting and rusty floor pan replacement. Bruce is the best for detailing. Talk to Nam or Tony . The best team around.

OMG SO GLAD WE FOUND THIS PLACE!! My Porsche needed the "dreaded" IMS bearing and I didn't know where to take it that wouldn't "bend me over" and this place was GREAT!! They were priced right and provided us with SUPERIOR service that made us comfortable with leaving our car while it was being repaired. The owner/manager explained EVERYTHING that my 911 needed and would need in the near future and had an exceptional knowledge and working history with 911 Porsche's. I also noticed while there that they work on BMW and Mercedes so I will also be bringing my other cars here as well! My Porsche RUNS GREAT and we can't thank Joe, Annie and their staff enough for making this such an easy,fast and educated experience!! We can't say ENOUGH good things about this shop! Nice to find such an honest and personable place to take our European cars!

Don't do business here. Had a minor body issue with my van that went $1k over estimate and 2 weeks over time with no communication. My wife had to call daily to get updates and was told "my manager will call you back" every day for over a week with no response. We went without our family car for so long without any apology or understanding. To top it off, they did extra work like charging for a tire replacement, alignment (i only had a scratch on a door and drove my car over 200 miles after my body damage), painting a door that wasn't affected at all, and charging us extra for a moulding job that seemed exorbitant. Again zero communication about this. Finally when I went to pick up today, they told me I had to pay $2500, then $3,000, then finally $250 after I calculated the insurance checks they had to find in their system with my own calculator. I wasn't aware of any charges due, so told them I'd call with a CC once i got home which is 19m away, but that's the only time the manager even seemed to care - when he wasn't getting immediate payment. Shouldn't have to be a fight to get my own car and not get ripped off. Never again.

Wow! I never thought in my wildest dream I could find an honest, experienced, and affordable mechanic to work on my car, but I did. Thanks, Jay! My son's car was leaking coolant and I knew that was an issue that had to be addressed immediately. I called several mechanics in Richmond, CA who asked for $95 just to diagnose the car. I stumbled upon Jay on the internet by random luck and I called him. He told me he could come out to my place and inspect the car, but because I live at the University Village he could not work on the car (due to restrictions imposed by the university). However, he said to bring the car to his place and that he would check it and, if possible, fix it that same day. Drove to El Sobrante, met Jay, and in 5 minutes he confirmed what he had already suspected on the phone, the radiator was cracked and leaking. He quoted me the price for the radiator and labor, and to my surprise, it was not an exuberant amount. As a UC Berkeley student I am on a limited budget, but what he had quoted me was manageable. Dropped the car off at 12:30 pm and it was fixed by 3:30 pm. Additionally, he gave me a 30 warranty on the labor and, of course, a 1-year warranty on the radiator. So, if you are a Cal student in need of repair work on your car Jay is your man.

Had my 1999 9-5 Saab radio remarried at this place. They did it quickly and charged a fraction of what others would have. The manager and workers were friendly and knowledgeable. Will be coming back here to get my next big repair done.

My Mercedes 2003 c240. The whole front end was busted. Conrtol arms, bushings, etc. I took it in, and the work was fantastic! My car came back clean, and running smooth! I'll be back for my shocks and hoses my car needs. I'm super happy with the service! Happy I found someone I can trust, and knows my Mercedes. YAY!

My rear bearing was completely screwed and they fixed it in a short amount of time but what was even better was the price and most importantly the customer service. They were extremely nice and made sure I understood the problem. They fixed my car in no time. I will definitely come back to them! Although hopefully I don't have to!

Robert is a top notch professional. He showed up on time, let me know what he was going to do, and when he would be finished. He even checked with me a couple times along the way to ensure he was doing the work I wanted him to do and did not try to steer me toward higher priced options that he thought would show little to no benefit. My car looked like it had been to Hell and back, but with Robert's magic, it looks almost new! I would highly recommend his services to anyone who wants his or her car detailed with extreme care. You will not be disappointed.
