Steve Stewart didn’t take long in life to know what his calling was. At 16 years he was working for German Car Service in Elida – sweeping the floors. That was enough to infect Steve with the European car bug, and 2 years later he was working for the same shop as a mechanic. After a couple of years learning the trade there he traveled to Western Colorado and landed a job with Import Motors, which at that time was the Mercedes/Volvo/Toyota dealership in Grand Junction. He moved on to another European car repair shop where fate sidetracked his career plans.
Working on cars does entail an element of risk, a fact driven painfully home to Steve when a car fell on him and caused serious injuries. After recovering and rehabilitation, Steve decided that Grand Junction could use a European car specialist and started The Foreign Aid, which he has owned and managed now in the same location since 1989.

Repair of '84 VW Vanagon
Our '84 Volkswagen Vanagon stopped running while on a roadtrip in Moab, UT. We eventually ended up at The Foreign Aid in Grand Junction. On short notice, Steve, the owner, went out of his way to fit us in the next morning, despite how busy they were. He had us in the shop by 8am. These guys know their way around Volkswagens, BMWs, and other imports. Him and his team found the issue very quickly (a faulty computer), and had us all fixed up and back on the road that afternoon, the same day. Steve's customer service is fantastic; he constantly keeps you updated on the status of your vehicle. Him and his team genuinely care about what they do, and it shows in the quality of their work and service, and for a very fair price. Would very highly recommend.

Rocker repair emergency diagnosis and solution
Master VW mechanics of the "old school" with complete new school knowledge and abilities - underscored by the Porsche's and Audi's lined up for service. Towed my '69 VW bus in with dread and doom thinking I'd lost number 3 cylinder of my aircooled 2 litre stroker motor in route from San Diego to Boulder. Long story short, brought it in and had me out same day after diagnosing rocker arm had lost a swivel head to the push rod... Miracle of prayer answered and great service to live and travel another day! Thanks guys!

Attempted to re-install engine.
I had an absolutely horrendous experience at this shop. They basically kept demanding money and holding my car hostage until, $3,500 later I towed it home with the job half done. The work performed was beyond amateurish; they lost the dipstick and replaced it with a coat hanger, 40 year old hoses were left in place but new hose clamps were installed at ten times the retail value, I was charged for a carb rebuild but the engine wouldn'd start upon pickup, the hood was removed but not replaced, the list goes on and on.

VW Repair
Steve and Jack bent over backwards to replace the clutch in my VW Beetle after it was smoked on a road trip. Knowing we were stranded they lent us a car and moved around their schedule to get us back on the road quickly. Very knowledgeable and trustworthy staff. Highly Recommended.

Auto Repair
I've worked with Foreign Aid for years on repairs to our cars. I'm impressed with their attention to detail and product knowledge. I also love the fact that it's locally owned and the owner does a ton of work in our community. He has helped Veterans out for years. Our Vets deserve the respect he gives them!

Car Repair and Maintenance
Service was excellent overall. I had clear answers to all questions that I asked. Communication regarding the repairs was timely and professional. Steve even took a few minutes to talk to the gas station that sold me some bad gas and caused the need for repair. I would recommend the Foreign Aid to family and friends.
