Engine repair service near Waukegan, IL

Made an appointment for 8 am, when I called at 11:30 am, my car had not yet been looked at. I received a message around 2:30 pm with the inspection results. So 6.5 hours after appointment drop off. Tuffy completed oil change, tire rotation and rear brakes just before closing time at 6 pm. There are individual coupons for each service but a $30 cap is applied on discounts per visit. I may make two or three separate appointments next time so that I can use all the coupons. I had to bring the car back the next day due to a loud exhaust type noise. It turned out that the air filter compartment was not reinstalled properly so minor fix but still resulted in a return visit. I like the team at Tuffy and plan to return but some of the above issues should be improved upon.

I was pretty excited about Wrench. They came to me and did a diagnosis on my vehicle. Said they would need to order parts and reschedule an appointment. I was excited that the $75 diagnosis feee would go toward my repairs. They returned for the second appointment and the parts ordered weren't the correct parts. I never heard from them again... I had to pay another mechanic another diagnosis fee. I was pretty bummed. ? I think this service would be great for simple things, Oil change, etc. but if parts need to be ordered, I'd suggest a brick and mortar. Ryan S.

I have been going to Richlonn's (in Racine) for tires, brakes and service the last 15-years. I have always been pleased and satisfied as a customer. In fact, approx. 3-months ago, Mother needed tires (white whal) on '86 Cadillac and not having luck in finding what she wanted. I spoke to Brian V. (Store Manager) about the circumstances and then made an appointment for Mom to get tires. Mom is very satisfied with the new tires and 90,000 mile warranty. Also, no one came close to offering the lifetime rotation, price of installing, balancing and Computer check-up for alignment problem with Nitrogen air and extensions. We are long-time customers who brought our "new to us" vehicle in for an inspection. After that, it was one issue after another. The day after we picked up the car from the inspection and some work that was needed, we completely lost the brakes in the car. We were told by many sources that if the car had been put up on a lift incorrectly, that the brake lines would be crushed. Had the car towed back, then we explained the situation. We feel that we are fair people and explained that if the mechanic made a mistake, we would gladly split the difference of the cost to fix the car. We understand that mistakes happen. We were told that the mechanic definitely did not make a mistake, and that we needed 4 lines replaced (2 brake lines, a fuel line and the other line in the same area). Cost to fix: $780. SHOP CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS SEVERLY DECLINED OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS: 1. Each and every time our vehicles have been in the shop, we await a call to let us know what is going on. Each time we call for information we get the same spiel from the customer service desk… “I was just going to call you…” – it’s hard to believe that since we are the ones who always have to follow up. 2. During the last repair, early in the morning we called and asked that the owner, Owen, call us to discuss the broken brake lines. That call finally came through at almost 4 PM, which was after the next issue that I am going to list (see #3). 3. Upon my arrival at the shop to pay for the work done on our vehicle, I walk in and Jim is bad-mouthing my husband to Owen. I stood in the lobby and continued to listen to the conversation without being greeted or assisted. Finally, I said to Jim – you do realize that you are talking about my husband. His response: was something to the tune of: your husband is accusing us of breaking something on the car and we did not. I explained that regardless, it is poor customer service to discuss another customer in such a manner when you have other customers in the lobby. At the end of the day, we paid the $780 to get the car fixed. THEN, two days later, while bringing the car downstate to our child at college, we noticed a strong gasoline smell. We brought the car to another mechanic, who upon looking at the car, showed us that the new gas line that was installed did not have a clamp. Apparently the $780 that we had already shelled out didn’t include a clamp. MORAL OF THE STORY is that we will no longer be customers of this establishment. There have been far too many errors from the mechanic team and they have horrible customer service. If I could, I would leave ZERO STARS.

Truly thankful for this establishment today. I was in a bad spot very close to the end of their business hours and they still helped me although they could've sent me on my way. A special thank you to Rachel & Tommy. You guys are the best! Dion Y

I don't know why I chose Schaumburg Automedics to service my car when I first moved to Chicago 20+ years ago, but I am really glad I did. They have kept my various old cars running much longer than I would have expected. I was thinking about junking my car after this last service, but the SA Team did such a fantastic job the car drives better than when it was new (to me). I had several idiot lights on my dash and thought I had no ABS of VSA because the lights were on. The guys working on something else noticed some frayed wires along the firewall from some rodent or something. Now ALL the dashboard lights are off. They also fixed some extra things I didn't ask for and didn't notice till I got home. AAA Stands for quality service. AAA never hung a sign on a shop as good as Schaumburg Automedics. I’d been to this place before and they were professional and courteous, but the next time I sent my wife in for a diagnostic on her car, they never told her what it would cost. They made a few minor repairs without asking her or telling her they would perform them and then pulled a bait and switch by giving her an estimate for other ‘issues’ the diagnostic cost us $268 dollars. Im 44 and have had more cars than I could remember and Ive never been in any repair shop that cost nearly $300 just. To be told I need to spend another $1000 and no work done aside from a few clamps as I was told was done for free. This pandemic is making some small buisness forget their morals and tell wives that their blinker fluids needs to be changed all so they can make a few dollars
