Shift Solenoid 'E' Malfunction

Our experience with George at Hunter Automotive wasn't a productive one. Bought a car, check engine light came on & the solenoids in the tranny eventually had to be replaced. Dealer sent us to George 4 different times to fix problem. First he checked (we had already done this) the ODB II code (P0770 Toyota - Shift Solenoid 'E' Malfunction) & replaced the tranny fluid. All he did each time was reset the OBD II code & said problem was fixed. The OBD II gave the same reading, 6 different times, including a failed vehicle inspection for same reason. Had all 4 solenoids replaced by a reputable transmission specialist. George still insisted it was an electrical problem, even though he told us transmissions wasn't his thing. What convinced us to go to another mechanic, was when he replaced the oil pan cover gasket, as there was a leak. When the engine began making strange sounds, I checked the oil & it was very low, put a quart in & it was still low. Brought car to Monro Muffler/Brake & Service for an oil change and was told engine only had 1.5 liters in engine (watched tech empty oil) Was told extremely lucky engine didn't seize. Sure, George did install a new oil pan cover gasket, but he somehow forgot to put the required 3.7 liters of oil in the engine. Also, oil leak was coming from valve cover, not the oil pan cover. Bottom line: if you you buy a car & it's under warranty and the dealer sends you to his mechanic for repairs, be vigilant & have another mechanic double check the work done and/or to be done. Always do your research when choosing a mechanic.
