Car pulling to the side problem

Never go there for any service. I was referred to Tilden for alignment work from Discount Tire due to car pulling to the right when accelerating. The mechanic/owner did the alignment ($79) and told me that wheel bearing needs to be replaced to fix the pulling problem ($300). After the replacement and tire rotation, the pulling problem got worse (now pulling while decelerating too). I left my car the following week for a day to diagnose and fix the pulling problem. He did not have a clue about the problem by the end of that day. I wasted $379 and hours of time and ended up having my car worse than before. He did not care about bad reputation or review. I went back to Discount Tire and explained what happened. They removed his business cards from the shop and will not recommend to anyone. Don't waste your time and money for visiting this mechanic!

Brake pads and rotors

Went in to have my brake pads and rotors replaced on all four tires. Mike took off my tires and told me my front pads were still in good shape. So he replaced my rotors and rear brake pads. Saved me some cash.

Multiple, including Oil Change, Lock change, Tune up, Lock on trunk replaced, Alternater replaced

I have been going to Tilden for over 10 years with multiple vehicals, including a VW, Chevy, and Ford. Mike, the owner, is always pleasant and straight forward. All his work as been great and affordable. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else for service. I If he can't do it, he will refer you to the next best place.

Tune Up-Brakes-Minor Repairs

I have been taking my commercial vans as well as my personnel vehicle as for about 6 years now. 3 Months ago my Ford a/c condenser went out. Checked with two other places...Ford dealer and car RX both wanted in excess of $2300 to fix my problem...just wanted other estimates as Tilden was swamped at the time. I waited...glad I did Mike did everything for $1200 to include a tune up. Replaced the plugs, O2 sensor, oil change. I took him the other written estimates to make sure he would do everything they would and he did. Had an issue with a commercial van about two weeks after an alignment and he took care of the issue no change. My employees take their cars their as well. Stand up work at great prices. I counln't be happier. Mark

all mechanical issues

Tilden Auto is the ONLY place in San Antonio we will take ANY of our cars. Mike is awesome and an honest mechanic. We have used them for 5 years and have never had an issue with the service or people.

Engine Light

I would give them no stars if it was possible. We had the misfortune to be steered to this shop courtesy of AAA. It was a nightmare from the beginning. The owner took days to return calls and noone kept me informed of my vehicle on a timely basis. He did work OVER his estimate without getting prior approval. The owner was rude and difficult to have a conversation with. My husband and I tried working with him and neither of us could get past the BS he was spouting to understand what was wrong with our vehicle. Apparently. he didn't know what was wrong. After 3 1/2 weeks of having our car twice (the first time I drove it away the engine light came back on and we had to return it to him) he didn't fix the problem and charged us $3100. We had AAA tow our car away from his garage to another. We have filed a complaint with AAA. I would NOT recommend him to my worst enemy. He may be ok for oil changes and tire rotations, but he cannot work on complicated issues.

Service Provided

After spending multiple hours day after day, these guys could not fix my car. I had them replace the same part 3 times and they still couldn't figure out why the same part kept messing up. I finally took it to the dealer and to Pep Boys to have it checked out. They both said that the guys at Tilden had forced the part in wrong and that was why my car kept breaking down. I tried multiple times to contact the owner at Tilden to let him know what the other 2 mechanic shops had said about his service. He never returned my calls or bothered to refund the $300+ he took from me. Stay away from this place!!! Pep Boys replaced the exact same part, but did it right I have not had any problems since.
