Transmission Rebuild

I found Jacks Transmissions after searching google for places that repair transmissions, I actually came here and read a lot of good reviews. I knew a dealership would want a godly amount to fix my jeep. I was hoping to fix the issue myself, I have some knowledge when it comes to working on vehicles but transmissions are not one of them. After replacing some parts that are common issues with what I was having I still had the same problem. I called up Jack we scheduled a time to meet and went over to his house he hooked his scanner up and did some testing and drove the jeep. He told me what he thought the issue was (Burned OD Clutch) a rebuild would be what I needed and how much it would be. He kept me informed if there was going to be any extra parts needed or issues. I got the jeep back a few days later. Jack was great, helpful, and very informative of everything he was doing.

Transmission Rebuild

My daughter took her 2008 Ford Explorer to Shenandoah ford to get an estimate on her failing transmission. The Dealer wanted over 5k to fix it. I found Jacks Transmissions online and gave him call. Jack was very professional and explained in detail what would be involved and what it would cost (which was less than half of what the dealer was going to charge). I agreed to have Jack do the work and glad I did. Jack communicated with me throughout the process and everything was completed on-time and less than the estimate. I would highly recommend Jack to my friends and neighbors.

Tramsmission rebuild

My transmission went out in my car and I needed someone that could rebuild it asap. I found Jack using internet searches. I called Jack and he answered all my questions. He took the car right away and started the work. He called me to explain the issues he found. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Jack did a great job rebuilding the transmission. The car drives like new. I'll recommend Jack to all my friends.

Transmission on Truck

Jack has worked on a couple of transmissions for our trucks. We have been nothing but pleased with his work and also value keeping business local. We own a small construction company and push our vehicles hard. His service has been outstanding and we will continue to do our transmission work with him.

rebuilt transmission(s)

I have taken two transmissions to Jack's for rebuilding along with a transfer case this last go around. Jack was very fair in his pricing and did not do additional work without authorization after long discussions. He was very efficient and timely in his work and returning my transmissions to me. I was told that my transfer case needed to be rebuilt and Jack took it apart and notified me there was nothing wrong with it. His prices are fair especially as quickly as he completes his tasks. He is open when discussing items, takes the time to listen to you and your concerns and fully explains items to you until he is sure you understand fully. I like the fact that he asked what my goal was with my trucks and built the transmissions to suit my needs. If I have further transmission issues, I will surely take them to Jacks and refer others to him also.

Transmission Overhaul

Jack has rebuilt the last two transmissions I had re-built for my car hobby. He goes above and beyond in his work and customer relations. He is up front with his prices and he charges a fair price. His business has re-newed my faith in Small town shop owners. Jack will do all of my work now and in the future, I just wish that I had known about him years ago. Thanks for caring about your customers and for doing a great job for a great price. Donnie Kuser

Tramsmission rebuild

I used only the phone book to find someone other than a dealer to service my transmission. I called Jack and he answered all my questions over the phone and we set up a date to have my vehicle towed so he could work on it. Jack is very professional. He called me when an estimate had to be updated and explained the extra work and cost before he started the work. The length of time to repair my vehicle was reasonable. I am very happy with the whole experience and and I would hope you will be too.

transmission overhaul

My name is Glenn, I own a small auto repair shop in Front Royal and I have used Jack's transmission for all of my automatic transmission repairs since 2005. Jack has always been there for me whenever I need him. no job to big or to small. He is a pleasure to work with in a time when there a more people out there trying to get your money and could care less if your transmission is really fixed or not. Jack stands behind everything he does and delivers service with a smile and a great attitude. Keep up the good work Jack !!!

overhaul

Just had the transmission for my 05 expedition overhauled. Jacks service was professional and the turnaround time was fast. He explained the whole process from beginning to end and answered all mechanical questions I had. Jacks also provided gaskets, converter, fluids and trans radiator. I have no problems recommending Jacks to anyone who ask about his service.

91 Chevrolet Stepvan

My husband and I have a Mobile Catering business and do our on site business in our mobile kitchen. My husband was coming back from a job when the transmission in the van left him sit. We called Jack. Jack had our transmission rebuilt, ready within the week and we were back in business. I would not recommend anyone else other than Jack to do any of my transmission work. He is very thorough, upfront and honest. There not to many people, in this world today, that goes the extra mile to care enough to make sure the repairs are right the first time. But Jack does!!! Thank you Jack. You are definitely one of a kind!!!

transmission replacement

Jack has replaced the transmission in both my commuting car (2 years ago) and by 4x4 truck (9 years ago) and both are doing great! I haul horses up a tough mountainside incline and Jack recommended I beef it up a bit to take the abuse (that is what blew out my original one at 48K as soon as a moved there). Now at over 150K and no problems. Thanks Jack for being so knowledgeable and doing a great job!

Numerous Transmission Rebuilds

I am a garage owner in Front Royal. We have had Jack rebuild numerous transmissions for us over the years. Anyone that reads these reviews should understand just how complicated today's automatic transmissions actually are. Not just anyone can repair these transmissions. It takes an intimate knowledge of the operating principals involved for these intricate complicated pieces of equipment to function properly. He knows how they work and he knows how to repair them. Unfortunately occasionally you run up against a guy like Rod that seems to know more than the expert. Jack has always gone out of his way to make sure that our rebuilds are impeccable and I can't speak highly enough of him and his expertise. From his follow up it looks like he went out of his way to help this character and got nothig but grief for it. It's a shame and it's wrong because Jack's a good person that does excellent work. I highly recommend him for your bench builds. He's done quite a few for us and never a problem.

Transmission re-built

Several years ago the transmission on my 1999 Dodge Caravan was shot. I was told that I need a new one or a re-built one. In either case I did not have enough money to get it done. Then I found Jack and asked for his opinion. He told me he could re-build my own transmission, which he ultimately did for $1500 less that the lowest of my other options. Bottom line, thanks to Jack my Dodge Caravan is still on the road.

Transmission Rebuild

We recently found Jacks Transmission out of necessity, one of our service vans broke down in Front Royal. I have to say that after being ripped off by Cottmans Transmission in Manassas we were a little gun shy to say the least. These vans are my company’s bread and butter and they have to be on the road to keep us going. Jack was a fantastic gentleman to deal with, the van was done when he said it was going to be done, and he even beefed up some weak points in the transmission to make it better than the way it left the factory. We could not be happier. I wish he did more than transmissions!!! His rates were fantastic, his customer service was fantastic and the product he produced is by far the best I have seen in years.

Honest diagnosis

My daughter took our 2008 Lincoln Navigator (68K miles on it) to Skyline drive on a camping trip this August and while in the park it broke down. The car would go in reverse but not forward. I had it towed to the closet Ford dealer which was in Font Royal. I live 90 min away in Stafford VA. The dealer said it would need a re-manufactured transmission which for this vehicle is very expensive ($7,000) Not wanting to send that much money I chose to have the transmission rebuilt and Called Jack's Transmission based on his reviews(I ignored the one negative review based on Jacks very believable response). Jack answers the phone him self said he could get to the car in a few weeks and quoted me a fair rebuild estimate. Since I did not need the car immediately and Jack seemed more then honest and fair about servicing the car I waited until he could get to it. In my experiences the best businesses are usually worth the wait. I sent Jack a $1200 deposit to start the work. He got to the ca right when he said he would. According to Jack when he put the car on the lift a large amount of transmission fluid came out and he noticed a broken line that pumps the fluid into the transmission case (and I am probably not explaining the problem correctly) The short of it is, the transmission was fine, he repaired the hose and refilled the transmission fluid. The bill was about $300 for the repair and he gave me a check for the difference from the deposit. The car has been diving fine. I don't doubt for a minute the dealer would of simply put a new transmission in for $7k It was a great experience with a honest businesses man and I recommend him highly!

transmission repair

Jack repaired our automatic transmission for our Chevy 3500 passenger van, and then recommended and installed a transmission cooler as part of that service. Much less than the dealership quote. Excellent service at a great price. That was 3 years ago, and our van transmission is doing great. More recently Jack repaired our manual transmission in our Honda Civic. Likewise, Jack provided excellent service. We were very happy with both repairs. Highly recommended. Ed

Transmission Rebuild

Jack is a very nice man and rebuilt my son's transmission a couple of summers ago. I am so glad the we found him because when my transmission went this year I knew exactly where to go. The cost was very reasonable, as well as the repair time. Unlike some places I have been to before, there were no hidden fees or unnecessary repairs. I would recommend Jack to anyone.

Transmission rebuild

My check engine light came on and it was transmission codes. The first four mechanics I brought it too in Front Royal couldn't help me so I went to the phone book and found Jack's Transmissions. He only charged $35 to diagnose the problem, considerably less expensive than a dealer. He tried to save me money at first, which I appreciated, by just recommending the control unit, which he knew to be defective be replaced. In the end, I did need a transmission rebuild, which he did speedily and at a reasonable price. I definitely would recommend him.

Transmission rebuild

I had Jack rebuild a worn out Toyota truck 1987 w56b transmission and transfer case. Since I am a home mechanic I need work like this to be done right the first time. The work performed was honest, timely and met all of my expectations. Jack is a very honest person and it was a true pleasure to meet a stand up Christian and family man. As a side note, Jack worked very hard to ensure my transmission was done on time. I required a special gear cluster that took several phone calls and additional time on his part. He was also able to do a bearing upgrade on the transmission that added a little extra support to the countershaft. He took the time to give me an education on the work he did which I found invaluable.

Speed sensor repair

A prior reviewer, "Rod" (He told me his name was Gerrard, so that is what I will call him), has left out important details. Gerrard called and said that his 87 firebird's speedometer wasn't working and that it was supposedly the speed sensor. I told him that I was a transmission rebuilder and that I didn't fix speedometers. As a bench rebuilder I will sometimes replace speed sensors and since he said that I had been recommended to him I decided to try to help Him. Since I don't have a lift I sublet trans removal and installation to another shop. I made several calls to Gerrard and the local shop to arrange to bring his car in. I found an old 700 sensor in my spare parts and told Gerrard that if it worked, I wanted $30 and the shop would charge him a lift fee. When the time came I checked his sensor and it wasn't working. It had the proper ohms but they weren't fluctuating when the drive shaft turned. I pulled the sensor and found that it had gears combined with the electronic sensor. This combination was only used for a couple of years in the late 80s. When I had spun the gear the sensor operated properly but not when installed in the car. After more investigation I discovered that the drive and driven gears were not meshing. Someone had installed the wrong part or parts at some point. These parts have been obsolete for some time and are no longer available. I called several of my sources and found a driven gear that I thought might work. Since I would need to use the lift twice, pay for the gear + shipping and tax + labor, I told Gerrard it would cost about $100. He gave me $60 up front. I ordered the gear. Several days later Gerrard called annoyed that I had not gotten back to him. I told him that the gear had come in but I was in the middle of a rush job for one of my regular customers and if he wouldn't mind I could put it in on Saturday. He didn't want to go back to the shop and asked if I would go to his house. I don't usually make house calls but I wanted to get this done for him and said I would. That Saturday I went to his house and found the car barely jacked up. With no room for my head and little for my hands I struggled mightily trying to get the sensor out and in again. After over an hour I realized something was wrong. The driven gear was cone shaped and down in the cone, invisible to me it was thicker than the original. This was keeping the sensor from going all the way in. I thought I might have the tool to fix it at home so I returned home. It took a half hour but I got the gear to the perfect dimension. I returned to Gerrard's house and installed the sensor. The car was road tested But the speedometer still didn't work. I jacked the car back up to check the sensor. The ohms were fluctuating properly when the drive shaft turned. I told Gerrard that the sensor was now working but there was another problem, most likely with the speed buffer or speedometer head. I told him that I didn't work on those. He asked how much he owed me. I ASKED if $80 was ok. He gave me the $80. Two hours later Gerrard called and asked why there was a seal left over. I sensed that his mood had soured and he wanted to impugn me on something. I told him that I had put another new seal on. I had struggled so much with the sensor that I didn't want to trust the first new seal. Gerrard said "This catholic thing doesn't work. From now on I'm going to do the New York thing. You lied to me. You said it was going to be $100." I told him that this type of work was exploratory. I had ASKED for $40 more because he had asked me to come to his home which I did in order to keep from inconveniencing him. This created a lot more trouble for me not to mention more time. It was also necessary to modify the gear. to make it work. This meant two trips to his house 3 miles away accounting for another 1/2 hour + fuel. I had about $48 out of pocket + about 4 hours in time. I would make just over $90. I told Gerrard to take the $40 back. He said "No just give me $25 when you see me at church (He goes to my church.). I didn't accept what he had said to me so the following Monday I put $40 in an envelope to send to him. A little while later when I was on the phone with an insurance agent, Gerrard called and left a message. He said "I hope you get this message. Your a lier! I talked to some friends of mine who are lawyers. You didn't fix the original problem. I want a full refund. I truly wanted to help this man. I went out of my way to do it. In the end I fixed the only part that I had ever discussed fixing. I drove to His home and returned every penny of his money less than one hour after he asked for it. Transmission repair/diagnostics

I have had Jack rebuild/troubleshoot many transmissions for me over the years and find it difficult to believe that anyone can fault his workmanship or integrity. Jack has performed transmission rebuilds on my 76 Skylark, both of my Chrysler product vans(T&C/Grand Voyager), my 88 Silverado. He has troubleshot the transfer case on my son in laws F350 - over the phone. He has performed FREE diagnostics when I think I have an issue. Without question, the best, most reputable transmission repair/service person in the Front Royal/Warren County area.

Transmission work on speedo

Seemed like a nice guy, but After having a simple service performed my work was not completed. Good thing I have some friends who are lawyers, I was told that the Virginia State law requires the Mechanic to perform the task he recommends be fixed, so it appears this mechanic broke the law by charging me and not fixing the issue. I am upset that he raised his price on me and did not fix my problem. I asked for a refund and am awaiting a response and will bring to another auto mechanic who appears more competant.
