Auto repair service near York, PA

Folks, please avoid York Tire & Auto. Being new to the area, I made the mistake of taking my car here to get inspected since they had the quickest availability. If I had bothered to look at the reviews (Google and Yelp) more carefully I would have kept looking and gone elsewhere. That was my first mistake. $50 to replace one wiper blade (they wouldn't let me do it myself), $90 to replace my license plate bulbs ($7.50 for a pack of two at Autozone, two screws each to get to the bulbs). They wanted $900 to do my rear brakes (they said shoes and drums and wheel cylinders needed to be replaced), but after calling around to other shops in town every other estimate was $400-600 worst case scenario. They also said I needed all new tires since I made the second mistake of telling them the car had just been sitting for an extended period of time. But when I took the car to a tire place last week I was told my tires looked almost new (they were, they were purchased just prior to the last inspection) and didn't need replacing, and that any flat spots in my tires from them sitting had likely worked themselves out after driving on them more. I ended up taking the car to another local shop (with no bad reviews) who changed the brakes and drums for $400 total. They also verified the tires were in good shape and that the rear wheel cylinders were fine. Bottom line, York Tire & Auto wanted over $1700 to pass the safety inspection, even though the car had largely been sitting and was even exempt for the emissions inspection since it had less than 5000 miles since last inspection. They flat out wanted to rob me. An honest shop would have said, "Hey we can't pass your inspection because the tires have flat spots from sitting, but if you drive on them more they will likely even out." With so many auto shops in this area there's no reason to take your car to a place like this where they will look for every opportunity to upsell you on things you likely won't need. Buyer beware.

The folks at Hanover Lube and Brake have always been great no matter what the problem was with my car or my family member's cars...The girls at the desk (usually Tammy and Connie) are welcoming and very helpful in arranging times to bring my car(s) in for service...They are also very knowledgeable about car repairs in general...Dean has always been very kind and generous (not just with me and my family) with anyone who comes into the shop...I highly recommend Hanover Lube and Brake for all of your car care needs !

Was able to get in same day. Very friendly staff. Went to Ranglin’s after calling around and being told I would have to wait at least a week to get my car in. Got a appointment next day and was able to get I pick up car using there after hours lock box. Also price was very reasonable. Will definitely be coming back for my future car service needs.

Very, very pleased. Great quality work. No pressure tactics. Straight shooters. YOU are apprised of the situation and YOU decide what to do. I will never shop around for front end shops again. And I truly believe that their front end expertise carries over to their other offerings. Call them, talk to them, and work with them. You will not be disappointed. BONUS - They answer their phones! Ben, Josh and Nate at Meineke at West York go out of their way to help and take care of their customers. I have been bringing my cars there for the last two years. I have three old cars with lots of problems and frequently one of the cars was in the shop for repairs. They did high quality work. They provided free loaner cars while my cars were being repaired. Above all they care about their customers, have served our country, and are very involved in the local community by sponsoring organizations like the Chidrens Miracle Network. Earlier this year I was on my way to attend my daughter's college graduation in Harrisburg. On the way our van with nine people in it broke down on Rt. 83. I called Meineke. They immediately arranged for a tow, came and picked all of us up and soon we were on our way to the graduation in the loaner cars they provided for us. We were able to make it to the graduation on time. This is just one of many instances where they have gone above and beyond to help me. They are honest, reliable, provide excellent service and above all care about you the customer. I have used many different auto repair shops in my lifetime, but none have come close to the service I have received from them. I took in my mustang to have a costom exhaust done i was happy with the idea they had but i was abit upset when i had to wait 2 weeks for parts, the parts were terrible quality for the price ( i paied over $100 for a pipe that was advance auto parts quality crush bent junk pipe) then after its all installed they put it on diffrently then discussed so my dual exhaust works as a single exhaust because of the h pipe being angled to favor one side and it all leaks horribly and the pipe keeps hitting the body and axle i am very dis satafied with the shotty work and cheap parts used when i paied over $700 for a job a student mechanic could of done better

The employees are RUDE at this location.... stear clear, they basically refused to do my state inspection and told me to take my business elsewhere after I inquired about an exemption for our vehicle that we only drive less then 1000 miles in 4 years. We had to change the battery after repairs and inspection sticker had expired, informing us that we had to risk driving it 100 miles without a current sticker. I contacted another and that was totally incorrect and instead of apologizing for their obvious mistake, the manasger got rude and said take it somewhere else he was not going to do the inspection. PA state inpsections exempt vehicles from the emmision if the have been done prior and do not accumulate more then 5,000 miles in a year. Ours is a pleasure vehicle accumulating only 1000 in almost 4 years
